A few flurries flew across some of central Indiana's hometowns Saturday as the second snow system of the week finally exits. In its wake, 2-4" of snow Friday with some isolated amounts closer to 5.0" occurred Friday. Indianapolis officially received 3.7" of snow Friday. Additionally, January 10, 2025 was... The 2nd snowiest January 10th on record. The snowiest January 10th in 130 years! The current daily snow record is 7.0" back in 1895. Because of this snow, the total snow depth on the ground is 8.0" for Indianapolis. This number is the most on the ground since March 25, 2018. With how cold we are, this snowpack is not going anywhere for the timebeing. Indianapolis has 15.7" of snow so far this season, surpassing the past three winters' entire snowfall! It's also the most snowfall to date (since October 1st) since the 2013-14 winter season. Back near freezing Sunday with more snow showers/drizzle It's been over a week since we were last at/above freezing. There is a slight chance we get back there Sunday with forecast highs right around 32°. Sunday will also come with a quick-moving clipper system. This will give us a (1) breezy day and (2) a few chances for light snow showers or some freezing drizzle. The cold front looks to pass through Sunday evening, when coverage chances look to be at the highest. This will not be a big-impact event but could cause some isolated slick spots on roads. The case will be elevated on untreated roads following this week's snowmakers. Following the cold front, lows will get back into the teens Sunday night. Much colder stretch next week As high pressure settles in after Sunday's cold front, some of the coldest air of the season moves in. Starting Monday night, we will be seeing lows get below zero with even colder wind chills. It wouldn't surprise me if we had some double-digit sub-zero wind chills Monday and Tuesday nights. These are possible following highs both Monday and Tuesday only in the teens. The coldest night will be Tuesday following another clipper system. A small snow chance exists later Tuesday where very light accumulations looking possible. The cold air present here will support at least some light snow in that timeframe. Moderating temperatures and another winter system? The beginning of the work week will be cold. However, we're tracking a brief change to the default cold pattern we've been in. By Wednesday, southerly flow looked to return and give our temperatures a much-needed boost. Next Friday and Saturday have highs above freezing and approaching the upper 30s to near 40°! Because of that change in airflow, it's possible the next weathermaker could bring a wintry cocktail of rain to snow across portions of the Midwest and Ohio Valley. It would be around late Friday into Saturday as of now. But this is still a week away and something we will be watching! Minus the few days approaching normal, the remainder of January looked to be below average in the temperature department.
