NORTH DAKOTA (KXNET) — The U.S. Department of Transportation has awarded two grants worth $26 million for two transportation and safety projects in the Peace Garden State. Most of the funding will go towards repairs to I-94, just east of Bismarck. Here is the breakdown: $24.5 million for the I-94 State of Good Repair Project: The North Dakota Department of Transportation (NDDOT) will use the money to repair about 20 miles of Interstate 94 east of Bismarck, helping to fix known safety concerns and modernize the roadway infrastructure. $1.9 million for the Marley Crossing Project: Under this award, NDDOT will evaluate design alternatives for constructing a rail-highway grade separation along ND Highway 1804, southwest of Trenton. The project is needed to address traffic congestion and safety at the crossing. Senator John Hoeven, a member of the Senate Transportation Appropriations Committee in the 118th Congress, worked to fund and advance the projects. He says these efforts will provide more reliable transportation for North Dakotans. “This $26 million in federal funding will empower NDDOT to make needed improvements and repairs along I-94 and ND 1804,” Hoeven said. “These efforts will enhance safety, provide more reliable transportation for local residents and travelers and help ensure these roadways can better meet the demands on our economy.” The funding is available thanks to the Rebuilding American Infrastructure with Sustainability & Equity (RAISE) grant program.
