Jan 11, 2025
ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — Lake-effect snow showers will persist throughout the rest of the day, Temperatures got up to the 30° mark, making feel like a 'warm-up' compared to the last feel days. Temperatures will fall into the lower 20s for overnight lows.
Sunday is shaping up to be an ideal day for winter football, with mostly cloudy skies, light winds, and temperatures hovering around the low 30s after any early morning lake-effect flurries move through. As the game progresses, there’s a possibility of light snow drifting into Buffalo by halftime, adding a touch of flair to what’s expected to be an exciting match up—though we’re unlikely to see anything close to a full-blown snow bowl.
Temperatures for Sunday's game will feel WARMER compared to the last several days. A chance of a random snow shower is possible throughout the duration of the game, but otherwise it will be a rather quiet game, weather wise pic.twitter.com/1urHrTwrH8— Leanne Byer (@LeanneByerwx1) January 11, 2025
Looking ahead to the workweek, Monday could bring a lake-effect snow band originating from Lake Erie, potentially reaching areas just south of Rochester. However, this won’t begin until late morning or early afternoon, so your Monday morning commute should remain clear and uneventful. It’s important to stay tuned for updates regarding the evening commute, as road conditions will largely depend on the snow band’s position at that time.
Tuesday will see snow bands form over both Lake Ontario and Lake Erie, aligned along the axis of the lakes, driven by due westerly winds. By Tuesday night, a shift to northwesterly winds will push the snow down into Western New York, bringing more widespread snow to the region. This pattern will continue into Wednesday, with lake-effect snow persisting as northwesterly winds dominate.
Another cold blast is on its way. You can expect temperatures to take a hit during the middle of the week. Highs will return to the mid 20s for highs, still remaining below average pic.twitter.com/4hs567pPyY— Leanne Byer (@LeanneByerwx1) January 11, 2025
Temperatures will steadily drop over the next few days, with highs only reaching the low 20s on Wednesday. By the end of the week, however, a warming trend is expected, bringing temperatures closer to or even above freezing.
