ATHOL, Mass. (WWLP) - The Athol Fire Department overcame weather and environmental obstacles on Friday night to put out a two-alarm structure fire, receiving assistance from several nearby crews. Cold temperatures cause ice to form on rivers and ponds The Athol Fire Department said that at around 6:38 p.m., the department got a report about a structure fire in the area. When firefighters arrived at the home, extreme smoke was rising from the structure before a flashover occurred. The house was in a non-hydrant zone, making access to water supply to put out the fire difficult.
