KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- It's the second week of January, and that means just one thing here in the metro... Kansas City Restaurant Week. Nearly 250 of your favorite local eateries are serving up their best dishes for reasonable prices to draw in some new customers. And this year, the event has broken records. KCMO residents wait for plows to clear snow: ‘I can only fret’ For local foodies, the 10-day event is something they wait for all year. It draws tens of thousands of people out of their homes and into the best restaurants around the metro for a fun dining experience. As well as this, it's a major boost for restaurants during the post-holiday lull. HomeGrown, a chain with four locations around the metro, is celebrating its first year at KC Restaurant Week with many special offers, deals and menu items. Some of these include fresh-squeezed juices, healthy breakfast platters, fruit bowls and special coffee drinks. But that isn't the only thing that makes it unique. "So, HomeGrown is primarily a scratch kitchen, and we try to locally source a lot of our food," HomeGrown General Manager Lynnette Neuman said. "We work with Scratch Bakeries, Scavuzzos, Messenger Espresso, so its really exciting." Another restaurant that is participating in its second KC Restaurant Week is Café Corazon. Over the course of the 10 days, the restaurant will offer a specialized menu with a range of foods and drinks, including empanadas, tamales, sweet treats from Argentina, coffees and cocktails. What makes this multi-day event so alluring is that Restaurant Week combines a variety of authentic beverages and cuisines from all around the world, bringing a number of customers of all backgrounds and cultures to the metro. "Me and my family started it about 6 years ago," Dulcinea Herrera, co-founder of Café Corazon said. "We started it because most coffee comes from South America, but no one talks about it. Me being Latin and Indigenous, we really wanted to showcase our culture and coffee, and also with our food. Everything here is very unique to that. Things you get here you can't get anywhere else in the world. We're very specialized." Monster Jam unveils monster truck supporting Travis Kelce’s foundation Café Corazon is one of only a handful of restaurants that offers carry-out or delivery on their KC Restaurant Week menus. Price points are usually around $20 for a multi-course breakfast meal and $40 to $55 for multi-course dinners around town. Reservations at many of the restaurants this week are recommended.
