PIEDMONT TRIAD, N.C. (WGHP) — Even though temperatures only reached the mid-30s Saturday afternoon, the sunshine and the slightly above-freezing temperatures allowed for a decent amount of melting to occur throughout the day. Winds have picked this afternoon which is making our actual temperatures feel like the 10s and 20s and this will remain the case for the evening and late-night hours; however, the wind will relax by Sunday morning. Temperatures will fall below freezing by 6 p.m. which means anything that melted and looks wet this evening will refreeze into Sunday morning.  Black ice will be our main concern overnight Saturday into Sunday morning as temperatures fall into the upper 10s by 7 AM Sunday. We'll go through a similar process on Sunday that we did Saturday with melting during the day as temperatures climb above freezing by midday and reach the low 40s in the afternoon. Sunshine also dominates during the day Sunday which helps with melting. If there's any remaining snow or ice on Sunday night, we'll go through another process of refreezing into Monday morning with black ice as the main concern. Temperatures will be in the low 20s Monday morning. By the afternoon, skies will be mostly sunny with highs in the mid-40s. A dry cold front (meaning no rain with it) will move through into Tuesday which will drop temperatures for the middle part of the week. We'll start Tuesday morning in the low 20s with highs in the upper 30s. Wednesday morning will be frigid with lows in the 10s. By Wednesday afternoon, we'll barely be above freezing with highs in the mid-30s and sunny skies.  Our frigid mornings continue on Thursday with lows in the upper 10s. Sunny skies and the return of southwest winds will help warm us into the low 40s by the afternoon.  Mostly sunny skies remain on Friday with morning lows in the mid-20s and highs in the upper 40s.  Rain looks possible by late Friday night into Saturday. Right now, the chance for rain is 40%. Temperatures look to be mainly above freezing with Saturday morning temperatures in the low 30s and highs in the upper 40s.
