RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) – Newly sworn-in Gov. Josh Stein is set to deliver his inaugural address on Saturday despite challenges from a winter storm that made its way through North Carolina Friday, leaving lingering impacts on the roads. Ceremonial inauguration events such as the swearing-in of other state-elected officials, block party and open house were canceled earlier this week due to the forecasted snowy and icy conditions across the state. The Inaugural Committee said it is exploring options to reschedule the block party. PBS North Carolina still plans to stream the governor’s inaugural address, which is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. Saturday. Stein and several Council of State members, including the lieutenant governor, attorney general and state treasurer, among others, have already taken their official oaths in private or through small ceremonies held earlier in the new year. The new governor has already been off to a busy start to his tenure, declaring his first-ever state of emergency ahead of the winter storm threat. He succeeds Democratic Gov. Roy Cooper after defeating previous Lt. Gov. Mark Robinson during the November election. Stein’s address will also be available live on CBS17.com and on the CBS 17 app.
