VAN WERT, Ohio (WANE) — An Ohio man was airlifted after a crash with a box truck in Van Wert Saturday afternoon. Ohio State Highway Patrol Troopers from the Van Wert Post responded to reports of a two-vehicle injury crash a little after noon on Saturday. The crash occurred at the intersection of U.S. 224 and Van Wert Decatur Road in Pleasant Township in Van Wert County, just 40 minutes southeast of Fort Wayne. A preliminary investigation found that a 2017 Chevrolet Silverado was traveling westbound on U.S. 224, driven by Adam Schulte of Kettering Ohio. A 2023 Mack Box truck was traveling eastbound on U.S. 224, driven by Marcus Mudd of Fort Wayne, according to OSHP Troopers. Schulte began to make a left turn from U.S. 224 onto Van Wert Decatur Road, into the path of Mudd. The Mack struck the Chevrolet, pushing the Cherovlet off the north side of U.S. 224. Mudd was transported to an area hospital for minor injuries. Schulte was flown to a Fort Wayne hospital for serious injuries. This crash is still under investigation by the Ohio State Highway Patrol. The Ohio State Highway Patrol reminds drivers to always wear a properly adjusted seatbelt and to never drive distracted.
