Cold air here to stay
Jan 11, 2025
The sunshine has returned after Friday’s slushy mess across the Carolinas. While brighter skies carry through the weekend into the workweek, don’t expect temperatures to dramatically recover anytime soon. In fact, lows dip even deeper overnight into Sunday as most areas wake up to the teens and 20s. Watch out for black ice Sunday morning, especially in spots that still have water or slush on roads. Highs top out in the 30s and 40s across the board to close out the weekend.
The sunny skies and chilly highs carry into the workweek. Temperatures may surge near 50º in the Metro and southeastward on Monday, but the passage of a dry cold front will quickly pull the rug out from under any extended warmth. Highs will struggle to clear the 20s and 30s on Wednesday sandwiched between lows in the 20s and teens. The Queen City will top out near 50º again by the end of the week, but above-average temperatures won’t find their way into the Carolinas over the next seven days.
