A Long Island man has been sentenced to 32 to 57 years in prison for sexually abusing three of his young kids over a period of 13 years, prosecutors announced Friday. The 68-year-old Selden man, whose name has not been released to protect the identity of the victims, subjected three of his children to “ongoing sexual abuse” between 1997 and 2010, Suffolk County District Attorney Raymond A. Tierney said in a news release. The three kids, who were between the ages of 7 and 13 when the abuse began, didn’t report the incidents to authorities for fear that they’d be removed from the family and separated from their siblings, according to Tierney. They only contacted authorities when all three victims became adults. On Nov. 25, 2024, a jury found the defendant guilty of three counts of first-degree course of sexual conduct against a child and one count of first-degree sexual abuse. Earlier this week, Suffolk County District Court Judge Karen M. Wilutis sentenced the defendant to 32 to 57 years in prison, prosecutors said. He will also be required to register as a sex offender. “It is unconscionable that a father would subject his own children to years of such heinous acts of sexual violence,” Tierney said Saturday in a statement. “Our hearts go out to the victims for their bravery in coming forward after everything that they endured.”
