SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP)- One in ten Americans say they overspent on holiday gifts, and while some prefer to wait to pay off debt, many local residents say they plan to prioritize it now.
"Definitely doing more than the minimum payments. I'm trying to get it down as quick as possible," said Allyson Wilson of Springfield.

According to a recent WalletHub survey, more people are delaying their credit card debt. The survey finds that one in ten people admit to overspending. 46% say they don't have a plan in place to pay off their debt.
One in five people believe they will have even more credit card debt by the end of the year, and 20% of Americans plan to transfer their holiday debt to a new credit card.
"I always spend wisely. There's been a time in my life when I didn't," said Willard Coffield of Springfield. "I ran up the credit card, and then I had all those months to pay it off. I am too old for that, I learned my lesson. So if I can't afford to pay for it, I don't buy it."
According to the survey, the average American household is estimated to have $10,751.00 in credit card debt.
