WESTERLY, R.I. (WARP) -- Two people were rescued from the water in Watch Hill on Friday afternoon. Around 3:30 p.m., members of the Watch Hill Fire Department, the Westerly Ambulance Corps, Inc. and the Westerly Police Department were called to Waters Edge Rd. for a report of two people in the water. When they arrived, two victims were found to be struggling in the icy water with what appeared to be kite boarding equipment with them. Three firefighters put on their ice rescue suits and began to enter the water while Watch Hill Fire Chief Dennis Reall called for assistance from the Westerly and Pawcatuck Fire Departments, along with the New London Marine Group regional response system. The Pawcatuck Fire Department was able to use a duck hunting boat to pull both victims from the water. Both victims and the three fire personnel who entered the water were not uninjured. The two victims said they had had been wind surfing when they hit the ice and could not get back up. The scene was cleared by 5 p.m.
