NEWPORT, R.I. (WPRI) -- A popular Newport restaurant is now under new ownership.
The Heritage Restaurant Group said on Saturday they have acquired The Red Parrot, an iconic Thames Street restaurant known for its diverse menu and vibrant atmosphere.
The previous owners, Russ and Esther Dulac, will remain with the restaurant.
"(We're) thrilled to continue working with The Red Parrot team during this exciting new chapter," they said in a statement.
"The professionalism and dedication shown by The Heritage Restaurant Group throughout this process has only reinforced my confidence in their ability to carry forward our legacy. Staying on for the next year, as consultants, allows us to help ensure our valued staff and loyal patrons experience a seamless transition while maintaining the high standards they've come to expect from The Red Parrot."
The deal was first announced in October of last year.
"We are incredibly grateful to Russ and Esther Dulac for building such an extraordinary business over the past 30 years," said Michael Anderson, spokesman for The Heritage Restaurant Group.
"Their dedication to quality, community, and exceptional service has made The Red Parrot a Newport institution. We're especially thankful that they have agreed to stay on and work with us post-closing. Their knowledge and experience will be invaluable as we continue their legacy of hospitality excellence."
Heritage Restaurant Group owns other popular spots in the East Bay, including Flo's Clam Shack, La Forge Casino Restaurant, Wally’s Wieners, Cluck House and Brick Alley Pub & Restaurant.
