BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) -- One person is dead after a residential fire broke out late Friday night in the Town of Wheatfield, the Niagara County Sheriff's Office announced. At 11:47 p.m., police received a report of heavy smoke and flames coming from 3992 Baisch Drive. According to officials, the caller said there was no response from the 82-year-old woman who resided at the residence. Officers attempted entry to the residence, but were not able to due to the heavy smoke and fire, officials said. Upon arrival, fire crews entered the residence and found the woman on the first floor. Officials said crews removed the woman from the residence and attempted lifesaving measures, but she succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
