What to know about potential hospital project in Minot
Jan 10, 2025
MINOT, ND (KXNET) — Going through the process. That's what has been happening this week.
During a Tuesday meeting of the Minot Planning Commission, a land owner who requested a preliminary plan for two plots of land and a change to the city's land use map, was approved to move forward with the zoning ordinance.
While the City of Minot recognizes there is no official hospital project yet, developers tied to Exceptional Healthcare showed potential designs for a hospital and what it would look like.
Supporters from the community aired their support for the hospital on Tuesday.
One Minot local, Alyssa Bach, says that if a hospital were to come to Minot it would help fill up some much-needed shortages in the community.
"This is not just about a zoning change, it's about shaping the future of healthcare in Minot. It's also about making sure other hard-working professionals, like myself, don't leave this town for other opportunities," said Bach.
However, the principal planner for the City of Minot, Doug Diedrichsen, wants to make the city's position clear on what transpired in Tuesday's meeting.

"Planning Commission made a recommendation that City Council, when they meet later in January, approve that request for plat zone change and future land use amendment, the City Council also requests annexation of one of the two lots in the subdivision," said Diedrichsen.
While at the moment the hospital's conceptual site is designed by the land owner, if the land owner's application is approved by City Council, any ordinance that is outlined in the city's commercial zoning ordinance would be allowed.
Diedrichsen says that so far, there have not been any permit requests to build a hospital yet, and is still working on the land entitlement phase.
"We have not received any permits to build a hospital yet. We are in the land entitlements phase, is what it's called, so right now, all they asked us to do is create two commercial lots north of the bypass, is all the applicate has requested at this time," said Diedrichsen.
Diedrichsen says that he is still unaware of the relationship between the landowner and the developer.
"I don't know how their agreement is put together, they haven't disclosed any of that information to me at this point. He is just operating as a potential developer and acknowledged that this is a potential developer that I've been working with by the applicant, but they haven't submitted any documentation of their legal relationship," said Diedrichsen.
The application for the plat will be reviewed by Minot City Council later this month for approval.
