StormTracker 8: Snow moves out, chilly air stays
Jan 11, 2025
RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -Central Virginia is waking up to a winter wonderful outside with many areas seeing over 3 inches of snow this Saturday morning. Snow flurries are pushing east and out of the area, and we will stay quiet for awhile.
Central Virginia saw a good dosing of snow last night and most of us are waking up to snow covered streets. Radar estimated snowfall accumulations show the heaviest snow south of Richmond with many areas seeing 5 to 6 inches. As expected most areas north of I-64 saw trace amounts to a 2 inches.
Snow flurries are continuing to push east and offshore this morning and our skies will clear by the afternoon. Look for highs in upper 30s under partly cloudy skies.
Mostly clear skies will continue overnight with lows dropping well below freezing into the teens. This means that any melting that happens today could refreeze overnight.
Sunny skies will be with us to end the weekend with highs in the middle to upper 30s.Quiet conditions continue the next several days and it will even be “balmy” compared to what we have seen on Monday. High temperatures on Monday will be in the middle 40s under mostly sunny to partly cloudy skies.
The chilly air returns Tuesday through Thursday with highs in the low to middle 30s. It will be slightly warmer on Friday with highs near the middle 40s.
We are watching next weekend as we could see another weekend storm move into the area. Right now if this were to happen, it is looking like mostly rain showers with highs on Saturday in the middle 40s.
