(WGHP) — The snow appears to have come to an end but the effects of the winter storm are just beginning in the Piedmont Triad. A Hazardous Weather Outlook is in place in the Piedmont Triad and most of central North Carolina. A Winter Storm Warning went into effect at 1 p.m. Friday and will remain so until 10 a.m. Saturday in the Triad.  The National Weather Service Raleigh released a Special Weather Statement at 4:48 a.m. on Saturday stating that while the snow has concluded, temperatures remain below-freezing across much of the Piedmont and there may still be slick spots on roads, bridges and elevated surfaces. Temperatures are expected to rise to above freezing at around 11 a.m. in the Triad. FOX8 journalists have been scouting road conditions across the Triad on early Saturday morning and have observed slushy, snow-covered and slick conditions throughout the region. Secondary roads particularly are especially dangerous in these conditions. Travelers on the road are using an abundance of caution and traveling well below posted speed limits. However, it is recommended that you stay at home and off the roads if possible until conditions clear. North Carolina Gov. Josh Stein declared a statewide state of emergency on Thursday evening ahead of the storm, urging the public to prepare.  “This storm will likely bring significant impacts from snow, sleet and freezing rain in different parts of the state,” Stein said. “North Carolinians should pay close attention to their local weather forecast, make sure they are prepared with what they need at home before Friday afternoon and stay home if possible as ice on the roadways will likely create dangerous driving conditions.”  Track the snow forecast with the FOX8 Winter Weather Center! Roads are slick, so stay home if possible. Black ice is also a concern on Sunday morning and Monday morning. Isolated power outages are also possible in areas that see freezing rain early Saturday morning.  You can watch this Special Edition of the FOX8 Morning News from 6 a.m. to 8 a.m. on Monday to stay updated with all the latest information. Total snowfall is expected to be 2" to 3" in the Triad, 3" to 5" in the mountains and foothills, and up to 1" in the southern Piedmont with sleet and freezing rain that may add an extra 0.15".   We will have sunny skies to enjoy Sunday with highs in the upper 30s, and Monday highs in the mid-40s on Monday. We could be dealing with slick spots again on Monday morning with lows in the upper-teens to lower-20s. It will be mostly sunny on Monday afternoon with highs in the middle-40s. Tuesday will be sunny and breezy with lows in the lower-20s and highs in the middle-30s. Wednesday will be sunny, breezy and cold with lows in the upper-teens and highs in the middle-30s. It will be sunny and cold on Thursday with lows in the middle-teens and highs in the upper-30s. Friday will be mostly sunny with lows in the lower-20s and highs in the low to middle-40s.
