WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — The snow is keeping road crews and some lawn care companies busy. The owner of Grounds Guys of Wichita, Jeff Baker, said once they saw the forecast, they rolled their crews out to clear parking lots. They have a contract with a private commercial company in town, that has multiple locations. His crews visited them 40 to 50 times, overnight Thursday into Friday, to make sure they had areas clear by Friday morning.  Baker said the crews pretreated those lots, earlier in the day to prevent ice from sticking to the ground. He said the wet and heavy snow made their shoveling job easier.  Baker said every dollar counts, since there aren't many lawn jobs in the off season.  "This was a warm welcome, in because we don't rely on winter work, so when this type of weather comes, it does give an extra bump to the bottom line for the people that work in this industry," said Baker.  He said some of the lots required re-visits, as snow continued to fall through the night.  Ground Guys got an earlier start back in 2023's snow season, when we had a lot of snow over Thanksgiving. Baker said, not getting any until January this season, allowed them to complete more lawn care jobs.
