NEW MEXICO (KRQE) – If you're looking to immerse yourself in nature, you can now book an overnight stay at the casita that belonged to the father of wildlife ecology. The Carson National Forest is re-purposing the historic home of conservationist Aldo Leopold in Tres Piedras. Once complete, it will be available for visitors to rent. The two-story bungalow has four bedrooms, a kitchen, a dining room, and a living room. It can accommodate eight people. You can book an Airbnb stay at the ‘Up’ house – and it floats Leopold built the home himself in 1912 when he served as deputy forest supervisor. "From the front porch, you can catch some really amazing sunrises and moonrises over the Sangre de Cristo Mountains. Really beautiful place and it just puts you right at the edge of a forest," says Zach Behrens, public affairs officer for Carson National Forest. The Aldo Leopold house will be the first cabin rental on national forest land in New Mexico. Bookings open Saturday but the first dates won't be available until May.
