APPLETON, Wis. (WFRV) - The Fox Cities Performing Arts Center is continuing its commitment to making live theater more accessible with a Touch Tour event for Disney's The Lion King. This sensory experience is designed specifically for blind and low-vision patrons, allowing them to explore some of the details of the production in a way that engages their sense of touch. This Touch Tour offered the opportunity to handle a selection of the show's costumes, masks, and puppets, which are key elements of The Lion King's stage presentation. TikTok faces possible U.S. ban amid national security and privacy concerns As they touched these items, guests were guided by Michael Reilly and Jodessa Presler, two crew members of the touring production. Reilly and Presler described the items in detail, providing insight into how they are used in the show to bring the beloved characters and story to life. The Touch Tour is part of an effort to make theater more inclusive through accessible offerings like live audio descriptions during performances. These descriptions provide blind and low-vision patrons with a real-time narrative of the action happening on stage, making the performance even more immersive. The Touch Tour was held before the performance, allowing guests to engage with the show's artistic elements in a relaxed, informative setting. The items were displayed on tables where attendees could touch and explore at their own pace. This marks the second Touch Tour hosted by the Fox Cities Performing Arts Center, following their first successful event in June with Moulin Rouge! The Musical. New year, new career: First Responders in northeast Wisconsin are ready to hire This initiative is just one of many ways the Fox Cities Performing Arts Center is working to create a more inclusive theater-going experience for all members of the community.
