BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) -- A Kern County sheriff's sergeant was arrested Friday on felony charges including rape, sheriff's officials confirmed.
Stephen Wells, 45, was booked into jail shortly after 2 p.m. on charges of rape by force or fear, attempted rape by force or fear and burglary, according to inmate records. He was being held on $240,000 bail.
Sheriff's officials said they could not discuss details of the case as it's a personnel issue. It's unclear what Wells' relationship is with the alleged victim.

Inmate records indicate he was arrested at a sheriff's building on McMurtrey Avenue. His formal arraignment is scheduled Tuesday.
As previously reported, Wells is a defendant in a lawsuit brought against the county by a former deputy who said she dated him.
Soon after their relationship ended, according to the suit, Wells burst into her home while drunk and demanded sex. She declined, and Wells "tried to rip my shirt and shorts off" before apologizing and leaving, according to the suit.
She alleges he continued to text and stalk her.
A trial on the suit is scheduled next year, and a hearing on a domestic violence restraining order the former deputy brought against Wells is set for April.
