FRESNO, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) - An overloaded extension cord being used by a person who was squatting in a Fresno garage sparked a fire on Friday, the Fresno Fire Department said. According to firefighters, just before 1:30 p.m., they responded to the 47000 block of East Clay Avenue for reports of a fire. When crews arrived, they said they found smoke and flames coming from the detached garage of a vacant home. Firefighters say they were able to quickly extinguish the flames preventing any damage to the house itself. Fresno Fire says the cause of the fire was found to be from an overloaded, low-grade extension cords being used by the person squatting in the garage. According to Fresno Fire, the poor-quality extension cords are dangerous and known to be a fire hazard.
