FRESNO, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) - The Fresno Chaffee Zoo is asking the community for help in naming one of its newest additions. According to the zoo officials, the zoo welcomed a new litter of African lion cubs in November. Fresno Chaffee Zoo’s babies now on display The cubs were born to first-time mom Zamaya. The zoo announced on social media the female cub was named Asali, which translates to "honey" in Swahili, by the lion care team. Zoo officials are now asking the community for help in naming her brother. The zoo has chosen three names and is leaving the final decision up to the community. These will be the new prices for Fresno Chaffee Zoo tickets in 2025 The three names chosen by zoo staff are: Timbavati (Tsonga) - "The place where something sacred came down to Earth." Maziwa (Swahili) - Milk Taraj (Swahili) - Hope/Faith The poll is open and will close on Jan. 16. Zoo officials say they will announce the winning name on Friday, Jan. 17.
