SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) -- Nearly 8,000 San Diego Gas and Electric customers had their power shut off Friday morning in yet another effort to reduce wildfire risk due to strong Santa Ana winds. The outages were issued just less than a day after SDG&E restored power to all customers impacted by the public safety power shutoffs Thursday afternoon. Another surge of Santa Ana winds before the week wraps up Meanwhile, more than 66,500 residents in designated at-risk communities could potentially face power shutoffs, according to the latest SDG&E dashboard. While the utility company warned about 73,000 customers of potential service disruptions, only about 7,000 had their power shut off at the peak of the first wind event earlier this week. As of 3 p.m. Thursday, all had their power restored. Fire danger remained elevated overnight due to critically dry fuel levels in conjunction with strong winds and low relative humidity. Red Flag Warnings have been extended across Southern California, including the county's valleys and mountains, until 6 p.m. Friday. Community resource centers will stay open between 8 a.m. and 10 p.m. for those impacted by the shutoffs until power has fully been restored. The full list of resource centers can be found on the SDG&E website.
