ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – It will be an expected sellout crowd that will be "striped out" on Saturday in the Pit. The Lobo men's basketball team will host San Diego State at 11 am for a game that will be nationally televised on CBS. This matchup features two of the top teams in the Mountain West as UNM (13-3, 5-0) is unbeaten in league play while SDSU (10-3, 4-1) is undefeated in true road games. New Mexico's 5-0 record to begin Mountain West action is a first-ever for the program. "Am I proud of the fact that its the best start in the history of the Mountain West for the Lobos? Hell yeah I am," said UNM head coach Richard Pitino. "I'm very proud of it, but we have a long season to go and we have got to focus on the right things." On Saturday, UNM will face one of its toughest tests of the season. While UNM ranks at the top of the conference for scoring offense, SDSU ranks at the top in scoring defense. The Aztecs also lead the league in multiple defensive categories including opponent field goal percentage, three-point percentage and blocked shots. "Their defense is still phenomenal," Pitino said. "Their defensive numbers are absolutely ridiculous. This is a complement to them, but it's been pretty consistent every time I've played them of what the keys and what's important are. That just shows you they got a great program." Fans attending Saturday's game are asked to wear either red or white depending on what section they will be sitting in.
