LOS ANGELES, Calif. (WLNE) — Firefighters are hoping for a break Friday from the fierce winds that have fueled massive blazes in the Los Angeles area, killing at least10 people and obliterating entire communities.
“I have talked to friends and I have many sleepless nights these past three nights,” Executive Director of Rhode Island Film and TV Office Steven Feinberg said.
A Cranston native, Feinberg lived in Los Angeles for 22 years while working in the film business.
He said he has been keeping close tabs on his friends still living in the area.
“Another friend of mine who, last night, at 3 a.m., sent me a picture of him and his two sons in front of their home in the Palisades that is rubble,” he said. “It looks like something out of the War of the Worlds.”
Feinberg added that people are dealing with the mental impacts of the fires, specifically children.
“The effect on children who are seeing that their school burned down or their life and their supermarkets and where they went to play is all burned down,” he said. “The impact on them, the therapy they are going to need for having lost normalcy.”
