JOHNSTON, R.I. (WPRI) — Body-worn camera footage obtained by 12 News shows the moments leading up to the arrest of a Providence firefighter accused of punching two police officers at a Johnston bar.
Patrick M. Brearley, 42, faces charges of simple assault, resisting arrest, and disorderly conduct after the incident at The Ave Bar & Grille on Saturday night.
Brearley was released on $1,000 personal recognizance following his arrest. In court Friday morning, he entered a plea of not guilty. He is due back in court on Jan. 31.

The footage begins with a woman informing officers about Brearley's condition.
"I think he's a Providence firefighter," she says. "He was fine 10 minutes ago. I don't know if he's having a medical emergency, but I literally was having a conversation with him 10 minutes ago."
Officers approach Brearley and ask him to take a seat, with one calling for detox.
"No," Brearley responds while grabbing the officer's body-worn camera.
"The fire department is going to come check you out, OK?" another officer says.
"Are you kidding me?" Brearley replies.
Officers repeatedly asked Brearley to walk outside with them.
"We don't want to have to escort you out in front of everybody. Just walk out," one officer says.
Brearley refuses to comply, prompting officers to bring him to the ground as the video shows his fists visibly clenched.

"Watch your fist, man. We're trying to help you," an officer warns.
The footage shows Brearley continuing to resist, ignoring commands to leave or sit against the wall. As police try to escort him outside, he pulls back, clenches his fist and punches an officer in front of him.

Firefighters and police are then seen lifting Brearley by his limbs and dragging him out of the bar.
"Providence firefighter, huh? Punching us in the face," one officer says. "Yeah, alright, buddy. You'll be on the news tomorrow."
Brearley is eventually placed on a stretcher and into an ambulance to be taken to the hospital.
