Chapel Grille set to close this winter, become highend Italian steakhouse
Jan 10, 2025
CRANSTON, R.I. (WPRI) — Chapel Grille, a popular restaurant that has called Sockonosset Cross Road home for more than a decade, will close its doors later this year.
The Carpionato Group, which owns the property, announced Friday that Chapel Grille will transition into a new Italian steakhouse and banquet facility called Circe Prime.
"All things must eventually give way to change, and with that change comes new opportunity," the Carpionato Group's Sheryl Carpionato said. "Now, it is time to honor the past while reimagining this beautifully restored historic building for the future."

Circe Prime will be run by Carlo Carlozzi and Kyle Poland, who the Carpionato Group described as two of the state's top restauranteurs.
"We are excited to blend our style of hospitality with the amazing venue the Carpionato Group has created," Carlozzi said. "Our goal is to provide a memorable dining experience where our guests can not only enjoy a high-level cuisine, but enjoy a fun an exciting atmosphere as well."
Though Chapel Grille will officially close on Jan. 31, the venue will honor the private events already booked for February and March.
Chapel Grille will be transformed into Circe Prime over a six-week period, according to Carpionato, with the restaurant's grand opening slated for April.
Circe Prime will also honor Chapel Grille gift cards through 2025.
Towering over Cranston's beloved Garden City Center, the Carpionato Group first opened the Chapel Grille in December 2012. The restaurant boasts a 14,000 square-foot dining room, an outdoor patio, two bars and a view of the metropolitan Providence skyline.
The historic property was once home to the former Rhode Island Training School for Boys, which was built back in the 1880s. The facility closed in the 1960s and the building sat vacant until the Carpionato Group bought it in 1998, kickstarting its years-long transformation into the landmark it is today.
