Covington Police reports crime reduction in 2024

COVINGTON, La. (WGNO) — Officials with the Covington Police Department report that, in 2024, crime rates were lower.
The information comes from their 2024 Uniform Crime Reporting statistics, which officials say demonstrate a "significant decrease" in reported crime compared to 2023.

The changes can be seen in the following statistics.
Violent Crime:
Homicides: Remained at zero in both 2023 and 2024.
Assaults: Declined from 72 in 2023 to 48 in 2024, a 33% reduction.
Robberies: Decreased from 2 in 2023 to 0 in 2024, a 100% reduction.
Property Crime:
Burglaries: Decreased from 41 in 2023 to 35 in 2024, a 14% reduction.
Thefts: Declined from 129 in 2023 to 95 in 2024, a 26% reduction.
Traffic Safety:
Motor Vehicle Crashes: Reduced from 560 in 2023 to 540 in 2024, a 3% improvement.
