GFD said preliminary information indicated that a different woman had also arrived at the scene to try and assist but they also fell into the icy cold water.
A third neighbor eventually managed to pull the two women toward the edge of the water after they latched onto a rope that had been thrown to help pull them to safety. GFD confirmed the dog suffered no injuries.
Greenwood police soon arrived and helped both women out of the water. They were taken to an ambulance for a medical check and transported to area hospitals in stable condition, GFD said.
GFD urged citizens to stay away from icy surfaces during cold weather.
