On Saturday, January 18, the organization will host its 16th Annual Lions in Sight statewide Eyeglass & Hearing Aid Collection event, encouraging people to donate used eyewear and hearing aids to their Recycle For Sight program.
From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on January 18, Lions members will be stationed at various locations throughout Hawaii, including all Walmart stores, collecting donated items.
While some Lions will be outside gathering eyewear, others will be inside Walmart stores supporting Walmart’s Wellness Day events. Donations can also be dropped off in special Lions Recycle For Sight collection boxes located at Walmart Vision Centers.
These donated glasses and hearing aids will be cleaned, tested, and prepared for distribution. Eyeglasses will be sorted by prescription and sent to developing countries where access to eye care is limited and expensive.

According to the World Health Organization, about 25% of the global population could benefit from corrective lenses.
Lions will also accept hearing aids, which will be cleaned and tested for local use.
One of the event's highlights will be a free vision screening at Kahala Mall (next to the Sunglass Hut in Macy's Wing), where Lions will be offering free eye tests from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
This service is available for children ages 4 and older, including those in grades Pre-K, K, 1, 3, 5, and 7. Parents will need to fill out a permission slip for children to participate.
The Lions' Recycle For Sight program is a vital part of their ongoing efforts to support those in need of eye care, especially in countries where an eye exam can be the equivalent of a month’s wages.
Lions are committed to Helen Keller’s 1925 challenge to become “Knights of the Blind” in the crusade against darkness.
