1 in critical condition following crash on Nimitz Highway

HONOLULU (KHON2) -- A woman is in critical condition following an early morning pedestrian versus car crash in the eastbound lanes of Nimitz Highway.

The 911 call came in around 4:45 a.m. at the intersection of N. Nimitz Highway and Valkenburgh Street.

Reports said a 60-year-old woman was crossing N. Nimitz Highway in a marked crosswalk before she was hit by a 55-year-old female driver, who was driving through the intersection.
Paramedics arrived at the scene and transported the 60-year-old pedestrian to an area hospital in critical condition.
The eastbound lanes of Nimitz Highway were shut down from Valkenburgh Street to Main Street to conduct an investigation. The lanes have since been reopened.
An investigation into a crash Friday morning on Nimitz Hwy has shut down the highway headed eastbound from Valkenburgh Street to Main Street.
Drivers were warned to avoid the area to avoid delays during morning traffic commutes.
Officials said the 55-year-old driver remained at the scene and was uninjured.
