INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (WOWO) — There was a hearing this week to begin work on a bill that would restrict access to social media for kids under the age of 15 in Indiana. The bill was introduced by State Sen. Mike Bohacek (R). He says data shows that a leading cause of teenage suicide in the country today is content seen on social media. The bill would require kids under the age of 15 to have parental consent to use social media like Facebook or TikTok. The ACLU of Indiana is pushing back at the bill saying that it could infringe on first-amendment rights. There are similar laws in states like Tennessee that are being challenged in court.
