AUBURN, Ind. (WANE) -- As the name suggests, Auburn Automobile Company made a name for itself from 1900 to 1937 after being founded in the titular city.
However, the vehicles also had a prominent presence elsewhere through its many dealerships -- including some in Van Wert, Ohio -- and an upcoming presentation aims to inform guests on the automobile ties between Auburn and Van Wert along with their legacy.

On Saturday, the Auburn Cord Duesenberg (ACD) Automobile Museum will host a presentation discussing two Auburn automobile dealerships located in Van Wert and the owner of one of the dealerships.
According to the Van Wert County Historical Society, the city's first Auburn dealership opened in 1910. Madison Auten, collections and education manager for the ACD Automobile Museum, said there were as many as four Auburn dealerships in Van Wert at one point.
A partnership between the two organizations allowed the ACD Automobile Museum to learn new information about the Van Wert dealerships, an area of Auburn automotive history Auten said can be tough to unearth.
"They have some photos of that area and information on the people who owned those dealerships and some of the cars that they sold," Auten said. "That's a lot of information that we were missing from our archives, so it was really important that we kind of partner with them and share that research.
A well-known Auburn salesman in Van Wert was Roy Dean Pennell, who started a dealership at 21 years old and kept it in operation until Auburn Automobile Company filed for bankruptcy in 1937, according to the Van Wert County Historical Society.
Auten said the presentation is part of a museum initiative that aims to offer more events for patrons, which will include more guest speakers and special tours on the first Saturday of the month.
The presentation will run from 11 a.m. to noon Saturday at the ACD Automobile Museum and is free with museum admission. The event will feature Dave Kirchenbauer, a Van Wert resident and Pennell's nephew.
