Biden promises federal government will cover 100% of fire response costs

WASHINGTON (NEXSTAR) - President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris hosted a briefing Friday on how federal resources are helping the Los Angeles area fight and recover from the massive fires, as President- elect Donald Trump criticizes the federal and state response.
Fires raging throughout Los Angeles have destroyed thousands of buildings and displaced thousands of people, killing at least 10.
"The scope, the scale, and the erratic movements of these fires is truly unprecedented,” said Biden.
President Biden says firefighters have made progress combating the fires in the last 24 hours, but added, "We've still got a long way to go."
Gusts from the Santa Ana winds powered the flames and aided in the spread. President Biden says his administration initiated every federal agency to help with this.
"We're going to make sure California has every possible resource to fight these fires and help survivors,” said Biden.
California Governor Gavin Newsom welcomes the assistance.
"There's tremendous anxiety around getting immediate assistance, the reality of this is starting to come,” said Newsom.
There is criticism from President-elect Donald Trump about fire hydrants running dry because of water distribution in the state.
"The hydrants were empty. They didn't have any water,” said Trump.
President Biden pushed back on that narrative. State and local officials say it's because of the sudden high demand for water to fight the flames.
