Winter storm bringing snow, wintry mix to the Charlotte region
Jan 10, 2025
A winter storm is bringing a mix of snow, sleet and freezing rain to the region. We started the afternoon off with a bunch of dry air, therefore, the snow that was falling was evaporating before it made it to the surface. Those near and north of I-40 will continue to see snow, but sleet and now freezing rain is taking over much of the piedmont — this will cut down on snow totals, but will lead to more ice concerns.
The entire area is under a Winter Storm Warning from 7 am Friday until 7 am Saturday. Winter Storm Headlines:
TRAVEL: Travel will be the biggest issue! Bridges and overpasses will be the first the freeze.
SNOW TOTALS:
Charlotte: Dusting – 1”
Piedmont: 1 – 2” — More north with less south.
Foothills: 1-3”
Mountains: 3-5”+
ICE TOTALS:
Around Charlotte: .10 – .25”
Southeast of Mecklenburg: .15 – .30”
OUTAGES: Power outages are not a huge concern, but for areas that have more ice, some outages are certainly possible.
