Berkeley County Sheriff's Office warns of icy road conditions

BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C. (WCBD) – The Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office warned Friday of hazardous roads due to icy conditions.
Much of the county was impacted by a mix of sleet, freezing rain, and snow flurries.
“Due to dangerously icy conditions, please avoid traveling if possible. Roads are slippery,” the sheriff’s office said, adding that the Tailrace Bridge in Moncks Corner had some ice accumulation.
One lane in each direction is closed on the bridge to help slow traffic.
“If you must drive, exercise extreme caution and reduce speed. Stay safe, stay off the roads if you can,” BCSO said.
Other hazardous roads include:
• Cane Gully Road• Highway 402 • Cooper Store Road • Black Tom Road • East Main Street at N. Live Oak• Jedburg Road• Tailrace Canal Bridge (One lane in each direction is closed)
The Berkeley County School District also canceled after school programs, activities and athletic events because of the winter weather.
