COLUMBIA, S.C. (WSPA) - Governor Henry McMaster has announced a State of Emergency for the winter storm that is currently traveling across the state of South Carolina. A State of Emergency will allow McMaster and other state officials to enact policies that will ensure further support of the state's response efforts to a crisis and coordinate resources. Some in Lowcountry seeing wintry mix Friday "Our state's emergency teams are fully prepared, and this State of Emergency will provide them additional support to respond to the winter weather moving across our state," said Governor McMaster. "Forecasts predict significant snow, sleet, and ice, with conditions intensifying earlier than anticipated, creating dangerous road conditions today and into tomorrow. I urge all South Carolinians to avoid travel unless absolutely necessary, take appropriate safety measures, and stay informed by following local weather updates." During the emergency, the South Carolina Department of Public Safety (DPS) encourages drivers to be aware of the current weather forecast and only travel if necessary.
