Jan 10, 2025
NORTH DAKOTA (KXNET) — The Federal Railroad Administration said today North Dakota will be receiving over $1.9 million from the Railroad Crossing Elimination Grant Program.
The grants are for communities to build railroad overpasses and underpasses, fund safety upgrades, and make improvements that result in safer communities for pedestrians, motorists, rail workers, and riders.
In North Dakota, the $1.9 million grant will go to the Marley Crossing Planning Project on North Dakota Highway 1804 in Williams County.

The work will include activities to support grade crossing-related activities in Trenton Township on BNSF infrastructure and on Amtrak's Empire Builder corridor.
According to the Federal Railroad Administration, the project will improve safety for rail and roadway users, reduce delays and emissions by reducing idling vehicles that will no longer have to wait at the crossing, and improve emergency access.
BNSF and the North Dakota Department of Transportation will contribute 20% of the project's costs.
