Austin Police identify man who died in Kyle following 6th Street stabbing

AUSTIN (KXAN) — On Friday, the Austin Police Department identified a man who died at a Hays County hospital on Dec. 14 after a stabbing that occurred on Sixth Street.
According to police, the man was identified as 19-year-old Leonard Akens.

APD said it was informed by the Kyle Police Department that a man with stab wounds arrived at a local hospital after being driven by a friend. KPD later called to update APD and said the man, later identified as Akens, died as a result of the injuries.
This case is being investigated as Austin's 67th homicide of 2024.
According to police, the investigation revealed Akens was in the 100 block of Sixth Street when his group got into an altercation with another group.
“This confrontation escalated, resulting in the victim being stabbed. Persons of interest have been identified, and the investigation is ongoing,” APD said.
