Ariel Jenkins had quite a pair of games for the Georgetown women’s basketball team. Jenkins, who played at Stuart Country Day, was named to the Big East Weekly Honor Roll after she averaged 14.5 points and 15 rebounds in a pair of games for the Hoyas against Xavier and Seton Hall. She posted her fourth double-double of the season, leading the Hoyas with a career-best 22 points and 14 rebounds in a 64-41 win over Xavier on Monday. She also managed three steals and went 7-of-8 from the line in the victory. Jenkins followed that up with a career-high 16 rebounds as well as seven points, four blocks and three steals in a tough overtime loss at Seton Hall. Jenkins is third on the team in scoring averaging 12.7 points. She also leads the league and ranks 15th in the nation on the glass with 10.4 rebounds per game, and sits at fifth in the Big East in blocks averaging 1.4 per game. Mercer Trio Leads Lincoln Ethan Garita (Princeton Day), Peter Sorber (Trenton Catholic) and Freddie Young Jr. (Trenton Catholic) all played a major role in Lincoln’s win over Shaw University. Garita poured in 10 points and grabbed four rebounds, Sorber had a game-high nine rebounds and four points and Young Jr. had 14 points and five assists. The Lions are 9-5 and Garita averages 13.9 points and a team best 7.7 rebounds, Sorber averages 9.5 points and Young Jr. scores at a 3.8 clip and has 12 steals. Hoyas’ Sorber Earns Fourth Big East Honor Thomas Sorber (Archbishop Ryan/Trenton resident) was named the Big East Freshman of the Week for the fourth time this season. He is averaging 17.0 points, 8.5 rebounds, 3.0 blocks while making 58.3% from the field for Georgetown. Sorber had 22 points in an 83-43 win against Coppin State and helped in a victory over Xavier with 12 points, five boards and two blocks. Sorber is tied for first in the Big East in rebounding with an 8.1 mark. Zemitis Named Patriot Rookie of the Week Reese Zemitis (Neshaminy) scored 26 points and recorded her first collegiate double-double during Bucknell’s 1-1 week in a pair of Patriot League contests. Against Lehigh, the freshman tallied 12 points, sinking four 3-pointers, and added a steal and a block. Zemitis posted a 14-point, 11-rebound double-double in Bucknell’s 51-34 win over Colgate, contributing three steals and a block in the game. The freshman connected on eight 3-pointers across the two games, with her 11 rebounds marking a career-high. Moonay Named to Centennial All-Sportsmanship Team Sammi Moonay (Pennington) was in the midfield for Dickinson this season and was named to the Centennial Conference All-Academic and All-Sportsmanship teams in field hockey. Moonay was a senior this season. Local Players Helping at Centenary Chris LaBelle, who played at Trenton Catholic, has started the process of turning things around as the basketball coach at Centenary and one of the reasons is the talent from this area on the roster. There are six players, Kenneth Rankin (Ewing), Naire Preston (Ewing), Jack Martin (Bordentown), Darnelle Forrest (Ewing), Domenic Raymond (Nottingham) and Avery Cannato (Steinert) and all are contributing. The Cyclones, who just lost a tough game to Rutgers-Newark, are 6-7 on the season. Rankin leads the team with 15.2 points and a team high 40 assists, Preston averages 12.9 points a game, Forrest is at 9.4 a game, Raymond at 4.7 with Martin and Cannato providing a spark off the bench. *** Field Hockey: Megan McClure (Pennsbury) had six goals and three assists for Dickinson and Erin Liggio (Princeton) started  16 games and had four goals and three assists. …Caitlin Hoover (Lawrenceville) was named to the All-Centennial team after leading Franklin & Marshall in scoring with 10 goals. Men’s Basketball: RJ Weise (Allentown) had seven points and a career high nine assists for Misericordia in a win over Haverford. …Khalif Battle (Trenton Catholic) had a season-high 26 points for No. 19 Gonzaga in a win over Loyola Marymount. …Brian Herbert (Robbinsville) had 12 points in Catholic’s win over Mary Washington. …Duece Jones (College Achieve Charter/Trenton resident) is averaging 9.7 points a game for La Salle. …Erik Oliver-Bush (Roman Catholic/Trenton resident) had 11 points for St. Anselm’s in a win over Malloy. …Pat Higgins (Pennington) has seven points for Drew in a game with NYU. …Kabrien Goss (Roman Catholic/Trenton resident) had six points and six assists for Montclair State in a win over Emmanuel. …Gary Francis (Pennsbury) had nine points for Neumann in a win over Marywood. …Cameron Downs (Pemberton) had 11 points and seven rebounds for Rutgers-Camden in a game with Stockton. Men’s Ice Hockey: Nic Petruolo (Princeton Day) has played nine games on defense for Holy Cross. …Tyler Coffey (Princeton Day) has two goals and two assists for Colorado College. …Chip Hamlett (Princeton Day) has two goals and five assists for University of New England. Women’s Ice Hockey: Sophia Szelag (Hightstown) has a 1.00 goals against average for Arcadia. …Jillian Wexler (Princeton Day) has a 1.94 goals against average and Gillian Kibbey (Lawrenceville) has an assist for Connecticut College. …Kyley Toye (Lawrenceville) has two goals and an assist for RPI. Women’s Basketball: Kennedy Wilburn (Hun) had nine points and seven rebounds and Kayla McCrea (Allentown) had nine points as Franklin & Marshall defeated Salisbury. …Franki Gomez (Hopewell Valley) had eight points and three assists for Rochester in a win over RIT. …Lauren Klein (Stuart) had nine points and seven rebounds for Susquehanna in a win over Drew.
