SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - The Springfield Thunderbirds continue to be on a roll this season, and they are giving back to their community.

Mascot Boomer and forward Reece Newkirk made an appearance at the MGM Ice Rink Thursday evening, offering kids from a local organization a free skate.
Kids from the team's 'Kids Club' had the chance to skate with players from the team. Although it was cold, the kids said they had a lot of fun.
“I remember when I was a kid I would come out to my local junior hockey team and you know they are asking me how to stop and stuff which is cool that I can help them out,” said Newkirk.
The Thunderbird's upcoming game on Saturday is sold out. If you want to head to the following home game, it's on January 20th at 3:00 pm.
Tickets are still available.
