OLD FORT, NC — $1.4 billion of federal money is coming to Western North Carolina to help with Hurricane Helene recovery.
A senior Biden administration official made the announcement after seeing first hand what people have been dealing with.
Right in the center of Old Fort sits Davis Country Store and Cafe. Owner Amy Davis says the store became a staple for the community, serving almost 30,000 meals to date. “But there’s still so much that needs to be done,” said Davis.
For more to be done, she says they need to see more funds.
And having North Carolina Governor, Josh Stein walk into her store on Tuesday gives her hope that help is coming.
Stein said, “It’s too big a cost for just the people of western North Carolina to bear on their own. The state, the federal government has to be there.”
Acting HUD Secretary Adrian Todman along with Stein, announcing $1.4 billion coming to north Carolina and an additional $225 million for Asheville.
