BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) -- A jury convicted a man of second-degree murder in connection to a deadly 2016 shooting near a Baton Rouge nightclub.
The East Baton Rouge Parish District Attorney's office confirmed that Horace Smith, 45, was found guilty after a jury trial ended Thursday.
Horace and his brother Mack Smith, 46, both of Baton Rouge, were accused of a night club shooting on N. Foster Drive in October 2016 that left one man dead and a woman injured.
Christopher Edwards was identified as the victim killed in the shooting after detectives were called to the scene around 1:35 a.m. Oct. 23, 2016. The woman injured in the shooting was taken to a hospital.
Video surveillance obtained by detectives showed Horace and his brother Mack in a verbal confrontation with Edwards before the shooting, according to police documents. The Smith brothers were reportedly removed from the nightclub by security.
An arrest warrant said footage showed Edwards approached by the suspects as he was leaving before he was fatally shot. Police said the suspects fled to their car while holding guns after the shooting.
Horace will be sentenced on March 13.
Mack's jury trial is scheduled to start on May 19. Court records show he pleaded not guilty to charges of second-degree murder and possession of a firearm/carrying concealed weapon by convicted felon in August 2017.
