FALL RIVER, Mass. (WPRI) — Fifteen people were forced from their homes early Friday morning after a fire broke out in Fall River. Crews responding to the triple-decker on Choate Street around 3:45 a.m. found heaving fire and smoke coming from the third floor. Fire Chief Jeffery Bacon said there were initial reports that children were trapped on the third floor but learned all the residents made it out safely. The resident who discovered the fire was transported to the hospital with burns after she tried to extinguish it. "The water system held up for us. Didn't have any frozen hydrants. Our lines have been flowing pretty well. So outside the fact that it's just terribly cold and very slippery outside, we were pretty fortunate today," Bacon recalled. It's unclear what caused the fire and the building is likely a total loss. Close Thanks for signing up! Watch for us in your inbox. Subscribe Now Breaking News SIGN UP NOW
