LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC 36 NEWS NOW) – Happy Friday! Another winter storm is set to impact central and eastern Kentucky today, with the heaviest snowfall expected during the Friday afternoon and evening commute. A Winter Storm Warning is in effect for most of Kentucky, with widespread travel disruptions anticipated. Snowfall Forecast: I-64 Corridor: 2-4 inches of snow expected for most, Lexington and Frankfort will likely be on the higher end of this forecast, closer 3-4″ with isolated amounts heavier than that possible. Southern Kentucky: Higher amounts of 3-6″ possible, especially near the Kentucky-Tennessee border. Snowfall rates could reach 1-1.5 inches per hour in localized bands during the afternoon and early evening. Timing: Light snow will begin in the Lexington area by early afternoon. Heavier snow will move in mid-afternoon, persisting through the evening hours. The heavy snow will taper off late tonight into the early morning hours on Saturday. You can expect off and on lingering snow showers throughout the day on Saturday, but these will be of the lighter variety. Impacts: Road Conditions: Roads will quickly become snow-covered and slippery, particularly during the evening commute. Visibility may be significantly reduced during periods of heavy snow. Travel: Expect difficult travel conditions. Plan for delays and consider postponing any non-essential travel during the afternoon and evening.
