CHARLES COUNTY, Md. (DC News Now) -- An investigation between the Office of the State Fire Marshal and the Charles County Sheriff's Office (CCSO) is underway after an elderly woman was found dead on Thursday afternoon. CCSO said crews were called to a home on Driftwood Place just after 3 p.m. after a friend reported they could not reach the 94-year-old homeowner for several days. ‘You get frustrated, you get angry, you get hungry’: DC braves brutal cold, safety concerns for vulnerable residents After making their way into her home, officials found the woman dead with burn injuries. Preliminarily, investigators believe she may have accidentally ignited her clothing after touching the kitchen stove. She was taken to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, where her exact cause of death and identity will be determined.
