Man arrested after pursuit with Hanford Police

HANFORD, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) - A man was arrested after allegedly leading officers on a pursuit Tuesday in Hanford, the city's police department said.
Police say on Jan. 7, officers initiated a traffic stop on a Toyota Corolla in the area of Hanford Armona Road and Ogden Street for displaying stolen license plates.
According to police, the driver, 30-year-old Dennis Velasquez initially pulled over, but he then sped away.
Officers say the driver refused to stop and led officers in a pursuit that reached speeds in excess of 100 mph, he then led officers to Corcoran.
According to police, the driver then crashed into a fence and fled on foot through a field near Plymouth and King avenues.
A K-9 was released by the officer to try to apprehend Velasquez. Police say after chasing him for about 600 feet, K-9 Jett was able to apprehend him with the assistance of the Kings County Sheriff's Office air support unit which had landed to assist in the apprehension.
According to police, the vehicle Velasquez was driving had been reported stolen.
Officers say Velasquez was booked into the Kings County Jail on suspicion of several felony and misdemeanor charges including felony evading, possession of a stolen vehicle and obstructing and delaying an officer.
