SANTA FE, N.M. (KRQE) – Actor Alec Baldwin filed a civil lawsuit against Santa Fe District Attorney Mary Carmack-Altwies, Special Prosecutor Kari Morrissey, and other Santa Fe officials for malicious prosecution and civil rights violations.

Baldwin filed the lawsuit Thursday. Other defendants named in the lawsuit include Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Office investigators, the First Judicial District Attorney's Office, the Santa Fe County Board of Commissioners, and the county itself. This comes after Judge Mary Marlowe Sommer dismissed the involuntary manslaughter charge against Baldwin in the death of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins on the "Rust" set in 2021.
Baldwin also alleges defamation in the suit, saying prosecutors and investigators intentionally mishandled evidence. Baldwin was the co-producer and actor on the film. He was pointing a prop pistol at Hutchins when it fired, killing Hutchins.
Morrissey issued the following statement about the lawsuit to KRQE: "In October 2023 the prosecution team became aware that Mr. Baldwin intended to file a retaliatory civil lawsuit. We look forward to our day in court," she said.
