SD inmate placed on escape status dies in Nebraska

SIOUX FALLS, S..D (KELO) -- A state prison inmate who had been placed on escape status has died.
The South Dakota Department of Corrections says Jeremiah Stands, 39, died on January 3 in Valentine, Nebraska.
Man charged with vehicular homicide from Oct. roundabout crash
Stands was placed on escape status after he failed to return to the Rapid City Minimum Center following a work release job search in July of 2017.
Stands were serving five years in prison for a fourth-offense DUI out of Tripp County.
